Position Title:

Head Coach – Silverfork Skimo

Compensation:

$10,000 annually (Part-Time, Year-Round)

Position Overview:

Silverfork Skimo is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and community-driven Head Coach to lead and grow our youth ski mountaineering program. This part-time leadership role is ideal for someone passionate about athlete development, ski mountaineering, and creating a strong team culture.

The Head Coach will oversee programming, coordinate with assistant coaches, build athlete pathways, and help foster lifelong participation in skimo while supporting athletes of all levels in reaching their goals. The Head Coach will work directly with Sarah Cookler, Program Director for the first year. 

Key Responsibilities:

Team Culture & Leadership

  • Build a positive, inclusive, and motivating team environment

  • Foster sportsmanship, accountability, and athlete connection

  • Create a culture that supports both performance and enjoyment

Program Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and manage the annual training and event calendar

  • Coordinate seasonal training opportunities, camps, practices, and races 

  • Ensure consistent year-round athlete engagement and progression

Coach Management & Collaboration

  • Work closely with assistant coaches and volunteers

  • Provide direction, communication, and alignment across coaching staff

  • Support coach development and program consistency

  • Work closely with Sarah Cookler, Program Director 

Athlete Development Pathways

  • Create structured pathways for youth, recreational, and competitive athletes

  • Encourage lifelong involvement in the sport

  • Help athletes progress safely and confidently through skill levels

Goal Setting & Performance Support

  • Assist athletes in setting and achieving personal performance goals

  • Provide guidance for race preparation, fitness development, and technical progression

  • Support athletes ranging from beginners to competitive racers

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching skimo at the club level

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Passion for ski mountaineering and outdoor community building

  • Ability to organize schedules, events, and multiple stakeholders

  • Understanding of long-term athlete development principles

  • Race experience in skimo at the national and international level preferred

Time Commitment:

  • Part-time, year-round; minimal hours in the off season. Upwards of 12 hours per week during the winter season. 

  • Flexible schedule with seasonal fluctuations based on training and race calendar
